Currently, the widespread use of the concept of MS is due to several reasons. Firstly, MS can be considered an epidemic, since about 25% of the adult population suffers from this ailment. The risk of developing cardiovascular diseases and their complications (heart attack, stroke) in patients with MS is 3-4 times higher compared to people suffering from one of the diseases, for example, hypertension without metabolic disorders. Secondly, the identification of the concept of MS is of great clinical significance, since with early detection and proper treatment, metabolic disorders are reversible and it is possible to achieve the disappearance or decrease in the severity of its main manifestations. Diagnostic criteria for MS are: abdominal type of obesity - waist circumference (OT) of more than 80 cm in women and more than 94 cm in men and additional criteria: - arterial hypertension (BP 140/90 mm Hg), increased triglycerides (TG 1.7 mmol / l), a decrease in the level of high density lipoproteins (HDL 1.0 mmol / l in men; 1.2 mmol / l in women), an increase in the level of low density lipoproteins (LDL 3.0 mmol / l), plasma glucose on an empty stomach 6.1 mmol / l, glucose in blood plasma 2 hours after glucose loading in the range of 7.8 and _ 11.1 mmol / l. The presence of central obesity in the patient and 2 of the additional criteria is the basis for the diagnosis of MS.
