Distraction osteosynthesis - developmental outlooks

The main principles of distraction osteosynthesis, developed in the second half of XX century, are shown in the work, and perspective trends of the development of limb surgical lengthening are indicated as well. New data on fixation stability, distraction rate and rhythm, directed to reparative osteogenesis optimization, are presented. The authors introduce the conception of "lengthening rate". Techniques of osteogenesis stimulation are assessed. The influence of lengthening on limb growth and development is demonstrated in children with congenital shortenings
