The study presents the results of a practice-oriented philosophical research of design as a hermeneutical event - a communicative representation of the aesthetic and technical meanings of project activities in an active sociocultural environment. In the context of the study, the cognitive possibilities of philosophical hermeneutics are clarified in relation to the question about the humanitarian meanings of ergo-design artifacts (where, as integration of design and ergonomics, objects that are justified aesthetically and ergonomically become possible). Design as a hermeneutic event occurs by analogy with the text, when design objects are understood as a symbolic system created by man. It is proved that understanding design (philosophically meaningful design practices) can be represented in the creative unity of rational and intuitive semantic aspects. The situational representation of design as a hermeneutic event in the article is made with reference to the author's results of design projection (the project of the Lipetsk hospital church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God)
