Relevance of the theme under study lies in the reflection of specific features of street signage as a phenomenon of communication and original artistic creativity in the public life of Russian cities in the late XIX - early XX centuries, including Astrakhan. The advertising sign, having passed the way of development from a utilitarian product to the subject of applied graphics, has acquired importance in the second half of the XIXth century and preserves its significance in the modern world.
