Domestic violence as an instrument of power in the family

In the article, the author considers domestic violence as an instrument of power in the family. Power in family can be both violent in its different forms (physical, psychological, economic, etc.) and non-violent. The article suggests an analysis of the sociological research on the problem of domestic violence as an instrument of power in the family. The study has found that patriarchal attitudes to power in the family are still dominant among respondents. The majority of respondents (39,6%) considers that man should be the head of the family. Almost half of pollees (47,8%) believes that the role of financial manager in the family should belong to wife. Most of respondents (87,6%) have answered that the authority in the family may be realized without violence. The answers of 18,8% of respondents on the following question have shown that violence as an instrument of power in the families takes place in one way or another and with different periodicity. Consequently, domestic violence is one of the main instruments of power in the family, and leads to more power of the offender and specific family relationships.
