Home leisure in the everyday life of Petersburgians (late XIX - early XX century)

The article is devoted to the consideration of such an element of everyday life of a resident of the capital of the Russian Empire as home leisure. The reasons for its spread and development trends related to urbanization and the emergence of new leisure spaces are analyzed. It is concluded that the main obstacle in its transformation among the lower strata of the urban population was extremely low housing conditions.
