Dostoyevsky and Nabokov: work intersections and ways of research

Бесплатный доступ

The article reviews conceptual lines in researching parallels and intersections of work of the 20 th century writer V. Nabokov's and 19 th century classic F. M. Dostoyevsky. As a review of works on this problem shows, Nabokov is defined as a conceptual researcher of Dostoevsky, and in some sense he becomes both subject and object of scientific reflection himself. Nabokov is original, however he drew the original patterns and ornaments made for art of the 20th century by his great, though unloved predecessor. The author proposes approaches for including these two creative systems, based on attraction - repulsion, into history of Russian culture. Basing on existing literary approaches, the author proposes to use one where the problem is examined in the context of viewing Russian culture as united ‘live text’, text of Russian culture. One of these approaches is a typology of cultures developed by P. Sorokin. If based on this and other approaches, the existing scientific works on Nabokov and Dostoevsky can become a fundamental for researching a phenomenon of united ‘live Russian text’ fastened by eternal values and spiritual meanings.
