The actualization of youth leisure issues is due to changes in the content and structure of leisure activities under the influence of socio-cultural transformations in the conditions of the formation and development of post-industrial society. The aim of the paper is to examine the structural and functional characteristics of youth leisure time using West German society as an example in the 1950s. The author notes that increasing economic welfare and more free time for young people has had a significant impact on the structural changes of leisure time among German youths. Particular attention is paid to identifying the main forms of leisure and the factors that have influenced the changing attitudes of the youth towards leisure. The conclusion is drawn that it was in the 1950s that there was a value change in youth attitudes towards leisure time, which came to be seen not as time off work, but as a way of realizing one's identity. Furthermore, the author notes the predominance of unorganized forms of leisure and reveals the role of the information-technology factor, under the influence of which new forms of youth leisure have emerged.
