In the article the author considers the dual nature of the Mordovian holiday. The duality of festive culture can be traced on the basis of a combination of pagan and Orthodox rituals. The article also shows the interrelation and role of pagan and Christian rites in preserving the traditional culture of the Mordovian people, the dual nature of Mordovian holidays is analyzed. The key stages of the Mordovian wedding, as well as their importance and modern usage are considered.
