The article is dedicated to the analysis of the image of the main character of I. A. Bunin's novella "Mitya's Love" in the context of some provisions of Christian anthropology and the description of the spiritual reasons for his suicide. The author of the article points to the spiritual degradation of Mitya, describing the events happening to him through the prism of the patristic teaching about the sinful thoughts and the development of sin in a person in personal terms. The article also gives an assessment of the spiritual reasons for Mitya's suicide, which is based on a vicious relationship with Alyonka, the isolation of the sinful Mitya from the source of life God and a passionate state of sorrow bordering on despair.
