Theological seminaries of the Upper Volga region (first half of the XIX century)

The aim of the article is to analyze the history of the seminary of the Upper Volga region in the first half of the XIX century. The author of the article developed a model of reginal seminaries’ establishment and introduced a wide range of new historical sources on the topic. The significance of the research has a two-tier character: it is important from both educational point of view and from a practical approach as well. The obtained knowledge on the practice and experience of regional seminaries’ establishment may be sought after by the founders of contemporary divinity schools. The research provides an in-depth analysis of historical conditions under which seminaries of the Upper Volga region functioned. All Russian tendencies and characteristic features of local experience on seminaries’ establishment are studied. Qualitative and quantitative characteristics of seminaries’ students and their teaching staff are presented. The seminaries’ facilities and resources are described.
