On the basis of a case study of Prince Meschersky salon the article asserts that homosexual relations in the early twentieth century Russia could function as a ladder for upward social mobility, allowing a person to obtain a certain position and prosperity. Drawing on a wide range of sources, the author examines the structure of the homosexual network and communicative practices of the network participants.
