Background: Severe adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a complex, rigid, three-dimensional deformity of the spine, the treatment of which remains controversial. The objectives of surgical treatment are to obtain an acceptable correction of deformity, to improve the quality of life of patients, as well as to prevent the progression of deformity.
