John Adams on the people's representation: issue's problems

One of the US founding fathers, prominent enlightener John Adams defined some key aspects of the democratic republic formation, the first of which is the principle of representation of the people. It was the basis of the newly created revolutionary governments' legitimacy. The representation was based on the people's sovereignty doctrine, which could be realised on the vast territories of the North American continent only through this political institution.
