Yekaterinburg was built as an industrial city in the XVII century, and was developing as a major industrial centre until the XXI century. Both pre-soviet Yekaterinburg and Soviet Sverdlovsk was the city manufacturing strategic defence products important for the state. Its structure, design, institutes, rhythm were focused on the effective operation of big plants.
