The BRICS countries have carried out significant reforms of healthcare systems aimed at improving the availability and coverage of the use of medical services and their quality. It is possible to assess the potential of healthcare in general by spending on healthcare as a percentage of GDP. According to this indicator, Russia and Brazil can be distinguished from the BRICS countries. In Russia, there is a steady increase not only in current health care costs, but also in domestic public and private spending. Medical and drug insurance differs significantly in the BRICS countries. To date, there is no full-fledged drug insurance in Russia. There is a system of preferential drug provision, which does not provide for the possibility of receiving free medicines to citizens if they do not belong to preferential categories. The changes that have taken place in the field of drug insurance in Brazil should soon lead to a reduction in the growth of costs for providing medicines at the expense of the state, providing greater coverage to the population. When running a drug insurance system in Russia, the availability of medicines will improve for all categories of citizens, the severity of diseases will decrease, and treatment costs will decrease.
