The article examines the transformation of the European world and Russia by the end of the XV-XVI centuries. This time was characterized by dynamism in the development of both Europe and Russia. In the Era of geographical discoveries, Europeans "discovered" an unknown country - Muscovy. A counter movement between the West and the nascent state began: diplomatic and profitable commercial relations were established. Russia needed specialists in various fields, arms supplies, and the involvement of foreign military personnel, engineers, and medics. Foreigners who have found themselves in Russia for a number of reasons have left interesting memories, which are an important source of information about Muscovy, the areas of interest of Europeans in the country and their perception stereotypes.
