A total of 639 elderly and senile patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) were examined and treated in Regional Clinical Hospital for Veterans of Wars between 2000 and 2015. These patients underwent isolated adenomectomy, transurethral resection of the prostate or simultaneous surgery. Of them, 191 patients (29.9 %) underwent simultaneous surgeries. We analyzed the type and frequency of concomitant diseases in geriatric patients with BPH in the first (2000-2006) and second (2007-2015) periods of the study. The implementation of novel methods of BPH diagnosis and treatment with the consideration of comorbidities in the second period of the study significantly reduced the incidence of some severe intraoperative and postoperative complications and mortality compared to the first period of the study.
