Factors of political stratification in St. Petersburg and Leningrad oblast: case study of legitimacy formation

The study examines the influence of political stratification, based on demographic conditions, digitalization levels, and socio-cultural characteristics of the region, as a condition for the legitimation of power. The study analyzes the demographic characteristics of the regions located in the North-West of Russia, specifically comparing St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast. The effectiveness of various means of managing the political process in regions with different gender and age structure of the population and migration balance has been revealed. The study identifies key factors influencing political processes in regions with diverse demographic structures but similar territorial and cultural characteristics, determining the most effective political management strategies. The concept of “political stratification “is refined. Factors influencing regional-level political stratification within the context of political communication using Internet services, digital platforms, and telecommunication networks (based on sociological survey data) are established. The characteristics of political stratification in St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast are presented, highlighting its role in shaping and legitimizing power.
