Factors of distress development in employees of high-risk professions

The article examines the problem of distress among military personnel caused by the specifics of the military profession and the impact of various stress factors. The concepts of "stress" and "distress" are distinguished, the psychophysiological reactions of the body to stress are described, and the main sources of stress in the military are analyzed, including combat operations, constant readiness to perform combat missions, prolonged stay away from family, and limited freedom of action. The article highlights the factors contributing to the development of distress in military personnel, such as individual personality traits, social environment, organization of military service, as well as cultural and national factors. Based on the analysis, areas for improving the stress prevention and correction system in the armed forces have been developed, including improving psychological selection, developing stress management training programs, creating a psychological support system, improving conditions of service, improving management style, combating the stigmatization of mental disorders, as well as developing rehabilitation programs for military personnel who survived combat operations.
