Success factors and ideal types of Russian middle level managers

The article presents the results of an empirical study of the influence of socio-status characteristics on stratification of the layers of management personnel. The special attention of the author is paid to the particular notions of social stratification. Being based on the result of the sociological survey, where 481 manager, that represent 18 sectors of the Russian economy, took part, the author suggests factor analysis of data and identifies and interprets 5 factors of success of the middle stage managers in relation to their interests, professional and life goals. These factors can be represented in the framework of dichotomies «material and spiritual» (motivation) and «external and internal effects» (value orientation). Being based on theoretical ideas about the ideal types, introduced in consideration of Max Weber, the author describes 5 ideal types of middle managers: idealists, selfish ones, freelancers, sloggers and altruists.
