The article summarizes how a campaign to discredit the anti-fascist Italian forces was organized in the first years of the cold war. Transition from the national policy of “reconciliation” to the line of "compromise with the past" developed in two parallel ways: concealing of war crimes of Nazi Germany over occupied Italy and criminalization of the USSR government. The article considers some aspects of the trial of D'Onofrio, a Senator of the Communist Party of Italy. The author provides an accurate description of ideological implications of the process. Based on the extensive documentary material and published literature, the article reveals the real role of the Union of Russian Front veterans in conducting the ideological war against Soviet Union.
