The paper is an attempt at an original genre codification of the two well-known fantasy novels, The Caves of Steel by Isaak Azimov and Dead Mountaineer's Hotel by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky and to categorize them as criminal fantasy novels. The author compares the 'fantasy' and the 'non-fantasy' modifications of the criminal novel genre and identifies the key features of the fantasy criminal novel.
