The problem of false news disseminated on the Internet in recent years has become so urgent that it required a solution at the legislative level. As a result, the government of the Russian Federation adopted the so-called laws on fake news, which stipulate penalties for publishing inaccurate socially significant information. The article discusses the practice of applying these legislative acts in Russia. Research Methods (Methodology). The study was conducted by analyzing the publications of Russian Internet publications reporting on the facts of the application of anti-fake legislation to online media, as well as to individual citizens of the Russian Federation. It also analyzes the actions of Roskomnadzor aimed at preventing illegal activities in the field of dissemination of information by federal and regional online publications. The main part. An increase in the volume of information in the modern media space, as well as the acceleration of information exchange within the framework of world society, has led to the fact that the quality of information produced and distributed by the media is rapidly declining. The media, referring to each other, often broadcast false, dangerous information for the society, and this is especially true of online media, since it is in the global information network that information exchange is the most dynamic. The international community has faced the need for legal regulation of inaccurate (fake) information distributed by the media. The Russian Federation was no exception. This article discusses the practice of applying Russian legislation in the field of counteracting the dissemination of unfair information by domestic media. Conclusions and general conclusions. As a result of the study, we were convinced that the judicial practice in the sphere of application of the so-called fake news laws is steadily developing in Russia. However, certain difficulties persist and they are primarily associated with the speed of information exchange. As a rule, fake news spreads so quickly that it is impossible to find the source. As a result, the law applies to distributors of unfair information, and not to its creators, and this problem must somehow be solved within the framework of the legal field.
