The phenomenon of believing scientists: history and modern state

The existence of believing scientists is a traditional argument towards compatibility of science and religion, which has been used since XIXth century. However, the percentage of believing scientists is relatively low, which can be explained by the overpowering character of the scientific knowledge. The article concerns with the history of the problem and its current state in Western sociology of religion. Due to historical reasons, the Russian situation is unique and requires special investigation.
