Article is devoted to the importance of Ukrainian monksintellectuals, who had absorbed the Western Church culture and called by Peter I to the active participation in Church life and spiritualintellectual movement in Russia in the first third of XVIII century. The focus is on relationships between older and younger 196 generations of bishops, originating from Ukraine, contributed to Peter I and his reforms and, especially, on the person of Theofan Prokopovich as the most adequate exponent of the ideas of the emperor.
