Philosophy of art: traditions of byzantine hesychasm and the work of Theophanes the Greek

This article examines the problem of the influence of the hesychast movement of Orthodox thought on Russian religious art, using the frescoes of Theophanes the Greek as an example. The main motive of his work was the apology of divine light, for which he used special means of artistic expression: monochrome painting, color minimalism, reverse perspective, and the choice of new iconographic subjects.
