The article discusses the contradictions in the argument of the unconscious in the psychoanalysis of Z. Freud. The qualitative characteristics that Z. Freud gives as attributes of the unconscious are analyzed. The reasoning is given that in the psychoanalytic doctrine the unconscious finds its manifestation in the single (individual) and special (social) being of the human I, but does not rise to the level of universality. It has been shown that the paradoxical arguments of Z. Freud give rise to the controversial criticism of his psychoanalytic ideas.
