The author of this article critically analyzes the historical-philosophical scheme according to which the European worldview developed from cosmocentrism through theocentrism to anthropocentrism. It is alleged that in connection with the “revealed” character of the Christian religion, in which belief was “given” to the human mind for subsequent development, there was a “worldview gap”, which makes the idea of an evolutionary development from polytheism into monotheism incorrect. Successive religious and ideological development really did take place in history, but it went in the direction from polytheism to pantheism. The author substantiates the idea that the cognitive processes of the “new era” should be viewed in the context of the involution of specific religious conceptions as “beliefs” from theism through temporarily affirmed deism to atheistic materialism, which, in its essence, is the newest form of pantheism, and this worldview regression has been conditioned, first of all, by the claims of the mind to self-sufficiency
