The article deals with the problems of formation of psychology of law as an independent direction of theoretical jurisprudence. The psychology of law is understood not as a branch of practical psychology focused on solving traditional problems of judicial and penitentiary psychology, but as a paradigm of understanding, interpretation and practical use of legal and psychological approaches for explaining and analyzing problems of philosophy of law and theory of law that has been formed and continues to develop today. In particular, we can talk about rethinking the issues of justice experienced as a feeling, about the use of personal psychology models for portrait characteristics of a particular thinker, etc. This approach to the psychology of law is due to the development of psychological theories of law over the past century and a half, which are not only an important direction in the history of legal thought, but also sets the basis for a more comprehensive perception of the specifics and content of legal and psychological knowledge.
