The article analyzes the role of philosophy for understanding social unity in modern Russian society based on two philosophical concepts that have been successful for our country (in the past and present): Marxism-Leninism and Eurasianism. As a result of the analysis, we have come to the following conclusions. 1. The philosophical categorical apparatus that underlies this or that concept often has its continuation in the implementation of various social practices. 2. Modern Russian society is in search of meanings, ideas and philosophical concepts that would determine the further path of the country’s development, and not only comprehend the present, but also give a perspective of the future. These searches are expressed in attempts to return to some past philosophical projects and ideologies, which at one time proved their effectiveness and were accepted by society. 3. The most pressing problem of Russian society is related to the unity of the nation. The process of national unification requires consistency in the search for modern philosophical concepts based on national heritage and striving to solve eternal problems with new theoretical methods.
