The issues of regulating the economy through financial mechanisms and instruments are examined in the article. A definition of financial regulation of the economy is given. Different levels of financial regulation are compared. A classification of financial mechanisms, tools and methods and appropriate conditions for their application are provided. The need for financial regulation at the national and global levels is substantiated as one of the key areas contributing to the realization of the potential of the economy. The role of public government bodies in the financial regulation of the economy is revealed, and the essence of global regulation of participants in international financial relations is examined. The importance of self-regulation is emphasized. The aspect of assessing the activities of financial regulators is identified in the study. It is concluded that the effectiveness of financial regulation depends on the degree of its compliance with the specific features of the stage of economic development. Described in the article the specific examples of financial regulation described in the article are allowed to delve deeper into the subject of the study.
