Physiological substantiation of Rh-compatible blood transfusion

The article describes the transfusion properties of Rhesus group blood system. The key reasons for Rh-incompatibility of a donor and recipient are disclosed. In this regard the detailed description of Rhesus system genes (RHD and RHCE) and biochemical structure of the Rh antigens is given. The factors causing Rh-sensibilization during transfusion of red blood cells are given. The focus is on the discussion of the accuracy of the usage of terms defining Rhesus affiliation. The authors suggest possibility (or necessity) of rejection from the terms «Rh-positive» and «Rh-negative» blood because all the system’sRh antigens can cause the formation of anti-Rh antibodies and initiate discussion of the question.
