The article reveals the educational potential of the methodological heritage, accumulated in the 50-60s of the twentieth century in the system of the Soviet chemical education of schoolchildren, focuses on the similarity of goals and objectives of school and extracurricular chemical education in the 50-60s of the twentieth century and at the present stage. The possibilities of reintegration into the modern educational practice of those forms and methods of formation of natural science competencies of schoolchildren, which showed their effectiveness at the heyday of polytechnic education in the USSR, are considered.
