Formation of aesthetic platform of the magazine «World of art» (controversy between S. P. Diaghilev and I. E. Repin)

The formation of the aesthetic platform of the magazine «World of art», which became the mouthpiece of new trends in the art and journalism of the end of XIX – beginning of XX century, was the struggle of those in favor of the Itinerant movement and modernism, which was reflected in the debate between the artist I.E.Repin and the editor of the magazine, S. P. Diaghilev. The article gives the analysis of the causes of the controversy, its content aspect, discursive style of the letters of the controversy participants, as well as its assessment by the contemporaries. In the scientific researches the data related to the formation of the aesthetic platform of «World of art», which were published in periodicals of the period under question, and the memoirs of contemporaries are introduced.
