In this paper we study the phenomenon of stereotype thinking: its sources, advantages and disadvantages. Traced the formation of political stereotypes relating to both policy-makers and to the image of the whole country. We analyze the differences in the perception of social stereotypes of individual experience and the mass consciousness. It also gives examples of common stereotypes, forming the image of Russia in the West.
