Fort Ross - «Russian fortress» in California

The article tells about one of the most interesting chapters in the history of the Russian Orthodox missionaries’ work in California as well as about the history of relations with the Roman Catholic missions in the same region during the Spanish and lately Mexican reign. Special section is dedicated to the history of Fort Ross from the year 1848, when California was integrated into the United States of North America. Much attention is given to the current state of Fort Ross.
