E fortification system on the northwestern border of Bactria

The paper publishes the results of archaeological surface surveys conducted by the Bactrian team of the Central Asian expedition of the IA RAS in the Baysun district of Uzbekistan on Mount Susiztag. The main objective of this reconnaissance was to detect fortification constructions which were used as border points controlling possible passages from Sogd to Bactria across Mount Susiztag. During this reconnaissance a 16 km long section of the mountain was surveyed. Within this section the team has identified 10 towers, 7 defensive walls extending for more than 4.300 m and one room.
