The paper analyzes the emergence of travel media texts in Russian travel journals in the early 20th century as a consequence of implementing journey management function. The case study is the magazine “Trips Abroad” published in Saint Petersburg in 1907 and 1908. It has not been studied before. The magazine adhered to the ideology of outbound tourism. The research elaborates on the availability of the journal indicators showing the author’s intention to be a practical guide for his audience during the journey. The attributes of travel media texts that contribute to the achievement of the author’s goal are identified and described. The magazine “Trips Abroad” does not have any creolized texts which are compulsory for modern travel media content. According to the nature of the trip, the research distinguishes five main types of travel magazines in the early 20th century: non-tourist ones, outbound and inbound tourism magazines, domestic tourism magazines, universal travel magazines.
