Russian business structures operate in a competitive market environment at different levels, territories and belong to different legal, organizational and legal forms of ownership, management structure of business entities. The article notes that the activity of business structures directly depends on the internal and external environment of functioning, state policy, social situation and many other factors. The purpose of the scientific work is an instrumental approach to the productive activity of entrepreneurial structures in the region and in the country, identifying the dynamics of their development. The generalization and analysis of public data, statistical and tax information made it possible to form a modern understanding of the functioning of business structures in a competitive market environment, as well as to develop general conclusions and recommendations for improving their activities. The authors reveal the need to integrate and adapt business entities to the digital economy of the country, which will improve their effective performance.
