The functioning of museums in the Vologda region through the prism of their financial support

In modern conditions, the role of culture, in its broadest sense, is becoming increasingly important. Museum institutions are of particular importance in addressing the major tasks of preserving the unity of the country’s cultural space, disseminating and strengthening traditional Russian values. The effective functioning of museums is largely determined by the level of their fi nancial support. The study is devoted to the analysis of museum fi nancing. The paper describes the dynamics of fi nancial indicators for Russia as a whole and the Northwestern Federal District. We focus on the institutions of the Vologda Region, the sources of their fi nancing, and the structure of expenditures for 2018- 2023. The aim of the work is to assess the level of public fi nancing for the region’s museums, taking into account all sources of fi nancing and the structure of the institutions’ expenditures. The data from the automated information system “Statistical reporting of the sector” and the data from the expert targeted survey “On the development of the activities of museum institutions in the region”, conducted using our own tools in October 2024, were used as an information base. The processing and interpretation of the collected data was carried out using systems, comparative, statistical and sociological analysis. It has been established that the allocated budget funds are insuffi cient to solve problems related to the current activities and development of museums in the region. Due to the conceptual importance of the issues of educating the younger generation for the future development of the country, it is important to maintain and increase the priority share of public fi nancing and its increase.
