Gas industry in Russia: evolution and prospects

In Russia the gas and petroleum industry appeared at 26 (11) December 1811. In pre-revolution Russia the main energy resources was illuminating gas which was used for lighting. This energy resources had been replaced by electricity before the First World War. In Russia the key moments at gas development were the construction of the gas pipeline Saratov - Moscow (1944-1946) and also the management of transcontinental gas pipeline Urengoy - Pomary - Uzhgorod (1983). By the end of 1980-th the USSR's system of gas supply had become the largest gas supplying system in world. February 17-th 1993 the Russian Federation government made a decision to re-organise the Gazprom Consern into joint-stock company.
