The article is devoted to the study of the current state and prospects of cooperation between Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in the gas sector. Russia today is facing with attempts to close the markets of European countries, which have long been the main consumers of Russian gas. Efforts to diversify consumer markets naturally led the Government of the Russian Federation and PJSC Gazprom to consider the issue of exporting natural gas to the states of Central Asia (Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan), as well as to study the prospects for using the transit potential of the region to export gas to Pakistan, India and Western regions of China. Due to their commitment to maintaining sovereignty, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan refuse to consider the issues of integration of the gas markets of the three states and the formation of a "gas union". But in the medium term, after gaining experience in cooperation and growing trust between different types of actors in the Central Asian gas market, this issue may become relevant.
