Genesis of the Main Directorate of Religious Affairs of Foreign Confessions

As is known, in 1810–1817, the Main Directorate of Religious Affairs of Foreign Confessions operated in the system of the central state administration of the Russian Empire. The archival document found by us in the Central State Archive of the city of Moscow — a draft of the Staff, defining the staff of the Main Directorate of Religious Affairs of Foreign Confessions in approximately 1810–1817, gives grounds to deepen knowledge about the organizational structure of this central state institution. The staff determined the numerical composition and structural organization of the Main Directorate of Religious Affairs of Foreign Confessions consisting of three departments, an office and an archive, with a total number of officials and employees of 48 people. Thus, through archival research, we came to the conclusion that approximately from 1814 to 1817. The Main Directorate of Religious Affairs of Foreign Confessions consisted of one Department, which included three branches. Thus, the newly discovered archival documents allow us to significantly clarify the structural organization of the Main Directorate of Religious Affairs of Foreign Confessions in 1810–1817.
