The analysis of distribution of anthropogenic terraces in Volgograd by the methods of remote sensing and field reconnaissance is conducted. There are mapped 120 hectares terraced slopes, created in the XXTH century in the context of the project “Green ring” for the erosion control. It is stated that the largest density of terraces is observed in the Tsaritsa river basin, the significant areas are in the basins of the Mokraya and Sukhaya Mechetka. The efficiency of use of many-time satellite images and field verification for the decodification of terraces is substantiated. The results demonstrate the relevance of the GIS-based methods for monitoring the anthropogenic landscape constructions and can be used for the evaluation of their ecological role and planning of conservation activities.
