The article shows preliminary results of developing geographical information system «Archaeological map of the Moscow region», created in the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The system is mainly applied in archaeological surveys in order to preserve archaeological objects. As of January 2020, the system contains data on 4427 objects. The data of archaeological sites is based on the analysis of more than 1,400 archaeological reports in 1930-2020 from the scientific archive of Institute of Archaeology RAS and the scientific reference publication «Archaeological Map of Russia: Moscow Region, Vol. 1-4» are also used. The information of these sites is complemented by data on test pits excavated during the surveys in 2010-2020. There are several graphical models of applying GIS for conducting archaeological surveys by the Moscow Region Archaeological expedition of the Institute of Archaeology RAS in areas intended for the further development (Fig. 1-3).
