The article analyzes the geopolitical situation in the European gas market. It is revealed that geopolitical factors have become the determining factors in the formation of the European energy policy. The assessment of Russia's position in the European gas market is given. It was determined that one of the tasks of energy geopolitics in Russia was to modernize the existing export model of hydrocarbons and change approaches in the energy markets of Europe
