Germany and transformation processes in security: initiative of Rolf Mutzenich

The paper continues a series of studies on current approaches to transforming security in the Federal Republic of Germany, also the challenges that the FRG is facing in this area and their consequences. The scientific novelty lies in the study of the essence and possible consequences of the recent initiative of R. Mützenich, the head of the Social Democratic faction in the Bundestag, for allied relations in NATO and for cooperation with Russia. The author comes to the conclusion about the opportunistic nature of the proposed initiative and suggests that its premature discussion can complicate the development of systemic consensus approaches, increase the instability of the camp of the countries of the collective West and make it difficult for the emergence of “pragmatism, openness, multi-vector”. The political discussions in Germany regarding this initiative allow us to characterize in more detail the content of the modern search for a foreign policy consensus in the country and make a number of practical recommendations for the Russian Federation. The work does not contain, by virtue of the subject, theoretical significance.
