The possible pipeline damages in the event of hydraulic impact due to unsteady fluid flow in the pipeline are considered. The urgency of studying the consequences and methods of protection of pipelines from hydraulic impact is proved. It is determined that with a sharp increase in pressure, damage to pipes, fasteners, pumps, fittings, foundations is possible, and with a decrease in pressure the formation of dents, detachment of the lining, suction of foreign liquids. Measures to protect the pipeline from hydraulic impact are systematized: organization of areas of discharge or medium supply; smoothing pressure surges due to hydraulic accumulators, membranes, caps, valves, etc.; the use of materials that effectively dissipate the energy of impact.
