The origin of cropplants is one of the hidden secrets of history. The article shows the link between the main world centers of origin of cropplants and the cradles of ancient civilizations. Botanical-geographic alanalysis introduced by Nikolay Vavilov allowed to conclude that all crop plants originated from mountain regions of tropics and subtropics. High land territories still keep large amount of wild mountain forms of modem crop plants. The author suggests that their cultivation in the northern regions of Russia, the climate and geographical conditions of which are very suitable for them, could play a great role in securing the food independence of Russia.
